Most of the film forming materials in the coatings, such as resins and pigments, are composed of polymer organic compounds, mostly conductive dielectrics. In addition to the film forming materials, the coatings also have cosolvents, curing agents, electrostatic diluents, and other additives. These substances, mostly polar substances, have low resistivity and certain electrical conductivity, and they can improve the electrical performance of the coating.

The molecular structure of dielectrics can be divided into polar molecules and non-polar molecules.

The dielectric composed of polar molecules shows electrical properties when subjected to an applied electric field. A dielectric composed of non-polar molecules is good outside. After spraying the paint through the nozzle atomization, the atomized paint particles through the muzzle pole needle or spray disc, spray cup edge due to contact and charged, when passing through the gas ionization zone generated by corona discharge, will again increase its surface charge density. The electrostatic field of these negatively charged paint particles guides the polar workpiece surface movement and is deposited on the workpiece surface to form a uniform coating film. The main source of VOC in automobile factories is the painting workshop, and the construction of green factories has undoubtedly become our active and passive construction concept. Traditional automobile painting workshop, the use of 3C2B solvent-based medium surface coating method, after years of development, the process is mature, high reliability, low coating cost, there are still many factories in the country in the use of such a production method, but such a process, its biggest drawback is high VOC emissions.

According to the analysis of paint research data, the VOC emission of the traditional painting workshop reached 120g/m2. And most of these spray paint exhaust gas is directly discharged at high altitude after simple water washing, and the pollution of the surrounding environment still exists. The "Volkswagen 2010 process" jointly developed by Volkswagen and the world's top coating manufacturers and equipment manufacturers is aimed at environmental protection. Among them, the compact coating process (B1B2) + water-based paint + dry spray room is the core technology and content. The new process can reduce the VOC emission from 120 to 15-20.

The newly built Volkswagen Foshan and Volkswagen Chengdu factories in China have adopted such processes, and domestic independent brands are also actively following up.
